I see no reason why President Rumen Radev should resubmit the proposal for a referendum on the euro to the National Assembly. The decision of the Constitutional Court is categorical and clear - the former Speaker of the Parliament - Natalia Kiselova, has grossly violated the Constitution with her unilateral decision. The Constitutional Court is not against the entire procedure. The President's proposal for a referendum is still in the registry of the National Assembly. It is proper that it be published, so that we will all see that it is there. This was stated by Vice President Iliana Yotova to journalists.
After the Constitutional Court said that Kiselova's actions were unlawful and unconstitutional, it is obvious that the procedure must continue from where it left off - i.e. in the National Assembly, she also stated.
The ruling majority will not allow a discussion on the topic of the euro, Yotova believes.
In her words, the government cannot cope with the “galloping prices”, which “have outpaced people's incomes”.
According to the Deputy Prime Minister, “the time for a referendum has irrevocably expired, however, because they did everything possible to prevent this discussion from taking place in Bulgarian society”.
She is of the opinion that “crisis after crisis” is ahead, since inflation is high, and issues related to people's living standards remain unresolved. Yotova emphasized that Bulgaria has the largest number of working poor in the entire European Union.
