Sofia Mayor Responds to Delyan Peevski on Parking - 1

Sofia Mayor Vasil Terziev responded to the leader of the Bulgarian Rights Movement Delyan Peevski, who announced today that he will challenge in court the decision of the Sofia Municipal Council (SOS) to double the parking fees in Sofia and expand the scope of the zones.

„As for the populist exercises on Sofia - they will not sway us. We are used to hearing loud words from people who conveniently ignore their own decisions with a billion-dollar (D)effect, but discover a „scandal“ where order is finally being introduced“, wrote Terziev.

The entire post by the mayor of Sofia:

The Sofia Municipal Council (SOC) voted on higher prices for the blue and green zones and expansion of the zones on January 13. The new rules come into force on January 5, 2026.

They provide for an hour in the blue zone to double and cost 2 euros, and in the green zone - 1 euro. The price of the annual sticker is also increased to 150 euros for the blue zone and 100 euros for the green zone.

"They claim that they are improving Sofia, but we ourselves are collecting money to repair the sidewalks"

For a second car, 300 and 200 euros will be paid, respectively. It is also proposed to expand the paid parking zones, which will happen in stages from 2026.

With the changes, the zones themselves are also expanding, now entering the residential neighborhoods near the capital's Ring Road.

The changes have sparked protests from Sofia residents and criticism from the opposition in the Sofia Municipal Council.
