The District Court in Varna will consider the measure of detention of the mayor of the city, Blagomir Kotsev. His defense insists that he be released on a "subpoena" measure.
At the beginning of the week, Kotsev was transferred to the Varna prison, after the Supreme Court of Cassation decided that the case against him and the other four defendants should be heard in the seaside capital.
The outcome came after the Sofia City Court terminated the proceedings against the Varna mayor. Blagomir Kotsev is charged with participating in a criminal conspiracy, soliciting bribes and coercion for the purpose of material gain.
According to the prosecutor's office, Kotsev acted together with the other four defendants in the case - municipal councilors Yordan Kateliyev and Nikolay Stefanov, Kotsev's PR expert and businessman Ivaylo Marinov.
Blagomir Kotsev was arrested on July 8 during an operation by the Anti-Corruption Commission.
