After the two protests in the past weeks and the reaction of the authorities - the withdrawal of the 2026 budget, protests are coming up again in the country next week. Will there be a result and what to expect, journalist Petko Georgiev and political PR expert Nidal Algafari comment on the program “This Morning“ on bTV.
“Everyone who watched or was at the demonstrations on Monday is aware of who wants resignations, and Borisov, as always, is acting crazy. He has such a habit of interpreting events in a way that suits him. It is clear that the demand for resignation was also formulated as a political one after the protest“, said Petko Georgiev.
In his words, if the pressure continues – we are going “step by step towards resignation“, if not – “this suffering can continue indefinitely“.
The reaction of GERB leader Boyko Borisov to the protests and his reading of the situation was described by Nidal Algafari as not quite timely and said that they could have come at an earlier moment.
“The spectacular performance that Mr. Mirchev made in front of Mr. Peevski's office yesterday, they certainly have some banter between them – who bowed, who didn't, but the problem is more serious – that Mr. Mirchev's attitude towards an NSO officer after the meeting was a bit too much in my opinion. If it weren't for the officer's ox-like patience, and he had slapped him twice, he wouldn't have been able to reach him to apologize“, he said.
And he specified – bowing does not only mean “the physical bow that is made, bowing is when the entire political formation (PP-DB) went and begged Peevski some time ago to sign the Constitution“. He also said that the PP-DB signatures are proof of this, but also that Delyan Peevski himself told him about it in his office.
And Petko Georgiev countered – “Ivaylo Mirchev absolutely authentically and emotionally expresses the feelings of a huge part of Bulgarian voters towards Delyan Peevski“.
“There is a very nice Bulgarian fairy tale – of an evil pear, an evil rod. You lied a little while ago, we come to demand an account from you immediately. I think that this categorical way of acting, even if there is a certain amount of theatricality in it, which I assume there is, is an authentic reflection of what is heard during the protests in Sofia“, he added.
But he agreed about the rude treatment of the NSO security guards.
