The Sofia City Court considered two appeals of five of those detained during the December 1 protest.
Four people remained in permanent arrest, and investigative actions are underway against others. A few days ago, it was stated that sufficient evidence had been collected that Kristiyan Yonchev, Lachezar Tuleshkov, Martin Ivanov, Julien Zhelyazkov and Nikolay Aleksiev threw objects (bombs and glass bottles) at police officers.
It was established that Tuleshkov, Yonchev and Ivanov were organized. Zhelyazkov was recognized as having thrown a bottle. He is on probation for drunk driving. According to the court, the three are not in danger of absconding, but they may commit a new crime. Their behavior endangered not only the police, but also the peaceful protesters.
Yonchev was convicted of transporting migrants. The sentence was suspended for several months.
Among the court's reasons was that thousands of rallies were continuing across the country and their behavior would endanger the lives of police officers and protesting citizens. The detainees took off their masks and threw bombs without being provoked by the police. Masks and pirates were found in their possession.
During the protest in Sofia on December 1, 71 people were arrested, including the son of businessman Atanas Bobokov - Bozhidar, who was later released on bail. Another man who committed acts of vandalism was detained with 31 thousand leva, divided into bills with the names of streets on them.
The defense of four of the detainees stated that there was not enough evidence that they were the authors of the acts of vandalism, and the fact that two of them have previous convictions does not mean that they are willing to go to custody again.
