Rumen Radev has finally left the presidency and is entering politics.
"A unique event. An incumbent president prefers to leave office and enter a political battle. The big question is whether this will change the political picture. Not only for the electoral distribution, but also for whether politics in our country will be done in a new way," commented former Deputy Prime Minister and Interior Minister Rumyana Bachvarova on the show "Denyat ON AIR".
According to her, it will not be easy for the current president Radev.
"As of tomorrow, he has no institutional quality. He is not yet the leader of a party, he has no position. Even if he founded a party, before such a structure has gone through elections, it is not politically legitimate enough. Patience is required, many sacrifices must be made. This is a project of political engineering," Bachvarova told Bulgaria ON AIR.
According to her, after the protests, the weakening of GERB's influence was felt and if this had continued, it would have been bad for the party.
"It was a good move for Borisov to resign. GERB's electorate is sufficiently stable, because during the series of elections a practice of behavior, of campaigning, of political presence was established, which is currently only being reproduced. GERB has the broadest, most solid electorate. It is distinguished by the fact that it is not inclined to switch to new parties," the former deputy prime minister analyzed. "Support for "Vazrazhdane" and for the Bulgarian Socialist Party will be very strongly affected, and depending on the voter turnout, we will see what will happen to the current smaller parties that emerged before the last elections. There are possible surprises. There is another question - whether Radev's party will be of the classic type or of the newer type. Bulgarian parties at the moment, with the exception of the big ones - GERB and BSP, do not have an internal party life", summarized Bachvarova. In the elections, the personalities will be very important, she is categorical.
"They will be part of the general physiognomy of the party. There will be important questions of principle and ideology that must be answered. It is also a question of personnel, it is a challenge. Partnership is mandatory in a coalition," the guest added. Bachvarova is of the opinion that without healthy parties with a full-fledged political life, good results cannot be achieved.
"We must monitor in order to be able to answer how the party of the current president will be financed. A lot also depends on the campaign and what tone will be set. "There is nothing wrong with having negotiations, reaching agreements for joint activities, but this will happen after the elections," said the former Deputy Prime Minister, emphasizing that it is not only important who will be the Minister of Interior, but also the Minister of Foreign Affairs, in order for the elections to be fair and transparent.
