The chairman of the BSP - Sofia Ivan Takov said that the BSP is at a decisive moment both for its own future and for the future of the left in Bulgaria.
According to him, after 35 years of a neoliberal model, the majority of citizens are no longer simply ready, but insist on true left-wing politics - for free and accessible healthcare, education without a commercial element, social spending instead of militarization, progressive taxation and state control over natural resources.
Takov emphasized that despite the public need for such policies, the BSP is currently not in its best condition and is not recognized as a defender of the interests of this majority.
According to him, the key issue is not revanchism or personal ambitions, and the clear and pragmatic goal for the party to win at least 200,000 votes in the upcoming early elections.
"Less would be defeatist, and more would be unrealistic", he said, outlining the target group - working people, employees, small entrepreneurs, freelancers and disappointed former BSP voters.
In his speech, Ivan Takov pointed out that the prepared election platform is socialist, radical and categorical enough to return the party to its ideological roots and social base. He noted that Rumen Radev's project will be a competitor in these elections, but this is precisely what gives the BSP a chance to establish itself as the authentic left force, since Radev will not position himself clearly on the left. "With a radical socialist program, we can be recognizable, different and speak the language of the daily battles of the majority", Takov stated.
In conclusion, he called on the party to first get back on its electoral feet and restore the trust of citizens, and for the question of power to come later. "There is nothing more to sell in the BSP. We must build - together", emphasized Ivan Takov.
