We are increasingly talking about young doctors who are looking for a career abroad. However, this year's data shows a different trend. 69% of graduates of the Medical University - Sofia choose to stay and work in Bulgaria.
Doctor Trifon Popov is one of the four winners of the "Golden Hippocrates" award for excellence this year. Behind the award are six and a half years of sleepless nights, hundreds of exams and one clear decision - to treat in Bulgaria, writes Nova TV.
"I chose to study medicine, because since my school years, chemistry and biology were among my favorite subjects. In addition, guided by my desire to help people, I chose to study the most humane profession," says Dr. Popov.
He speaks foreign languages. There are opportunities outside the country. But his choice is different. "I assessed that the level of education in the country is at a good enough level, and the teachers are good too," explains the physician.
However, Bulgaria not only retains its young doctors. It also attracts those who choose our country as their home.
"I am from Palestine. My name is Albar Derefay. I like the country very much and I am attached to it," he says. Today, he is already a volunteer in cardiac surgery and is gaining experience side by side with Bulgarian specialists. His plans are to continue his professional path in our country. "I have always wanted to be a doctor. It was my dream. After graduating from high school in England, I had the opportunity to study medicine there as well. But I like Bulgaria. That's why I came to study medicine here. I want to help Bulgarians, as they help us," says Albar.
For the people standing on the other side of the hospital bed, these young doctors are already hope. "We should be grateful to such a doctor for staying in Bulgaria. His whole family is in London, and he chose to treat Bulgarians in Bulgaria. He's great," says Yanko Kostov, a patient.
The university reports a steady trend in the desire of young doctors to realize themselves in our country.
