Up to eight aircraft of different capacities, as well as the government aircraft “Airbus A319“, if necessary, are ready to carry out evacuation flights of Bulgarian citizens from the Middle East in a short time. This was announced by the press center of the Ministry of Transport and Communications.
The department specifies that since February 28, 2026, talks have been held with the management of all Bulgarian airlines that have aircraft or operate in the region.
Within the framework of the actions taken, the available aircraft, the possibilities for providing the necessary take-off and landing slots, as well as the operational parameters of possible flights are being clarified. The process is being carried out in close coordination with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, competent national institutions, partner countries in the region and the Member States of the European Union.
The leading priority remains ensuring the security of Bulgarian citizens and creating conditions for their timely repatriation at the first safe opportunity, the ministry states.
Active coordination is also being maintained with the aviation administrations of other EU member states, including the exchange of information on planned evacuations, opportunities for joint actions and mutual use of available capacity.
We recall that on Sunday, US President Donald Trump confirmed that Israel and the US had jointly launched strikes on Iran, which led to the suspension of a number of flights in the region.
Yesterday, Acting Minister of Tourism Irena Georgieva said that around 1,400 organized tourists with tour operator programs are currently in Middle Eastern countries. The largest number of them are in Dubai, followed by Jordan.
