GERB leader Boyko Borisov held a number of meetings on May 26, the first of which was with American congressmen who took part in the spring session of the NATO Parliamentary Assembly in Sofia, FOCUS reported.
“I familiarized my colleagues with all the decisions of the Bulgarian Parliament in the field of defense and energy, which were adopted in the last 9 months.
Without the will and support of GERB, it would not have been possible to adopt decisions on providing military aid to Ukraine, to conclude and ratify a contract with the USA for the acquisition of a new main combat vehicle for the infantry “Stryker", the adoption of bills related to with the acquisition of the F-16 Block 70 fighter jets, the adoption of up-to-date mobilization plans, consistent with the new NATO defense plans.
Also, the adoption of a defense investment program until 2032, which foresees over BGN 9 billion investments in new armaments and equipment, licensing and delivery of non-Russian nuclear fuel for the Kozloduy NPP, start of negotiations with Ukraine for the sale of the equipment intended for the "Belene" NPP project, start of the construction of the 7th and 8th units of the "Kozloduy" NPP; with AP1000 technology, adoption of a decision in connection with the initiative for a vertical corridor of the gas transmission operators of Bulgaria, Greece, Romania, Hungary, Slovakia, Ukraine and Moldova for the transfer of additional volumes of natural gas from diverse and reliable sources", reported Borisov.
The stronger GERB is, the more categorical will be the guarantees for Bulgaria's Euro-Atlantic orientation in defense, energy and foreign policy, the party leader also assured the Americans.
Borisov then held a conversation with the Deputy Speaker of the German Bundestag, Johann Vadepool.
The GERB and CDU/CSU groups in the Bulgarian National Assembly and the German Bundestag will continue to work in depth for the excellent relations between our countries, Borisov specified.
During the meeting in question, Borissov informed the German representative about the work his party had done in the framework of the previous parliament.
“I also informed him about the progress of the pre-election campaign for the early parliamentary elections in our country. In addition, we discussed the upcoming elections for the European Parliament and reviewed the bilateral relations between Bulgaria and Germany," he added.
