„President Radev's statements in recent days sound like participant in the currently defunct election campaign. He sounds practically indistinguishable from the position of "Revival", which apparently positions him as a player in a possible next election in the fall. At least that's how I interpret his requests. Apparently some players are preparing if not for a vote in the fall, then for a slightly longer-term perspective in two and a half years. This was stated on the air by Ruza Smilova, a political scientist
She and political analyst Georgi Harizanov commented on the tension between the presidency and the executive in recent days, as well as whether a stable government is possible after the elections.
According to Harizanov, the president's position is getting more and more aggravated, but his arguments are “increasingly insane”.
„Never, at no time was there any question of sending Bulgarian soldiers to the front. And constantly bringing up this topic shows helplessness. Why are all those who say that those who want Ukraine to preserve its territorial integrity warmongers? They are looking for something to hang out about and raise a new topic. And there is no new topic. The Western, civilized world, NATO, the European Union, our allies are behind preserving the international legal order and Ukraine preserving its territorial integrity,” said Harizanov.
According to him, the president stands as a “counterbalance, justification and argument for the formation of a Euro-Atlantic coalition”.
„Indeed, Radev's narrative is very close to that of “Revival”. I may not say that we are committed to sending troops, but that decision will not be made here. That is, the narrative is sovereign and this is the narrative of “Revival”. On the one hand, there are Radev, “Vazrazhdane”, all those who say that our decisions must be made. On the other hand, there are Euro-Atlanticists who take into account the geopolitical choice that Bulgaria has made, Smilova believes.
According to her, after the elections, there will be attempts to form a Euro-Atlantic coalition, but this time it will be more difficult for the parties.
