The Anti-Corruption Commission found the mayor of Gorna Oryahovitsa Nikolay Rashkov in a conflict of interest because he sold municipal property to his mother, BNR reported.
Last summer, Rashkov appeared at an auction and his company won the sale of municipal property for BGN 613,000 in Gorna Oryahovitsa. According to the order of the then mayor Dobromir Dobrev, the amount was to be paid to the municipality on August 9. In November, Nikolay Rashkov won the local elections and became the new mayor of Gorna Oryahovitsa and transferred the company to his mother.
On November 24, already as mayor, Rashkov signed the contract for the sale of the land with his mother and the money was paid into the municipal budget. After a conflict of interest report was filed, the Anti-Corruption Commission conducted an investigation and found Rashkov in a conflict of interest, fined him BGN 5,000 and took away his salary of BGN 225 on the date he signed the contract.
If a conflict of interest is established with the mayor, the municipal election commission will be convened and the mayor's powers will be terminated.
On his Facebook profile, Rashkov indicated that he will appeal the decision to the Veliko Tarnovo Administrative Court and then, if necessary, to the Supreme Administrative Court.
