< p>Prime Minister Dimitar Glavchev sent a letter to the Speaker of the National Assembly Raya Nazaryan and to the parliamentary groups in the 50th National Assembly, requesting that the Parliament decide who will represent Bulgaria at the upcoming NATO Summit.

This was announced by the government press office.

In the period from 07/09/2024 to 07/11/2024, the NATO Summit will take place in Washington. The forum is the highest level of decision-making in the Alliance and will mark the 75th anniversary of the North Atlantic Treaty,
signed precisely in Washington, USA.

For the first time, the newly admitted member states will be involved and the allies are expected to unanimously adopt important decisions, the Prime Minister wrote in the letter.

The decisions to be taken at the meeting in Washington presuppose the fulfillment of long-term commitments by the Allies, with a particular emphasis on investments in the defense of each NATO member country and long-term support for Ukraine and its financial provision.

In connection with the implementation of the above-mentioned decisions of a strategic nature for the defense of Bulgaria and the construction, modernization and improvement of the defense capabilities of both our country and NATO as an alliance, Prime Minister Dimitar Glavchev considers it expedient the level of participation in the meeting from the Bulgarian side to be determined after a ruling by the National Assembly as soon as possible, given the deadline for the procedures for registering the national delegations in the forum, expiring on June 21.
