Daniil Vidinski was elected head of the Bulgarian Orthodox Church after a runoff in which he received three more votes than his rival Metropolitan Grigori of Vratsa. 138 delegates took part in the Patriarchal Electoral Assembly. The enthronement ceremony of the new patriarch was held in the "Alexander Nevsky" cathedral. and it was attended by high clergy and many officials.
