Dangerous section in the center of Sofia between the street “Khan Krum" and "Vasil Levski" Blvd. Residents of the neighborhood warn that accidents regularly happen at the intersection, and their complaints and reports remain without result.
The SDVR told bTV that there have been four accidents since the beginning of the year, the last of which was serious. The traffic situation is currently being analyzed.
According to Zoro Stoyanov, there are accidents at the intersection in question almost every week.
„The reason is high speed and incorrect conversion from the middle or right lane to the left for a turn towards “Khan Krum”, inattention of the drivers. Speed is important. One of my suggestions is to make a footpath before the intersection. I think that this would kill the speed and emphasize the attention of the drivers when they make a left turn”, says Zoro Stoyanov.
„The last time there was an injured motorcyclist who had fractures. It has become an almost everyday thing, we have become some kind of special crossroads, he adds.
„I have formulated in two or three letters different solutions. There must be a speed camera, and not the decorative ones that only show how fast you are moving, but one that sanctions. Especially at night the situation is very bad. The camera must be coupled with some other kind of physical infrastructure piece – unevenness or rough paint in bright colors with an indication for rebuilding, maybe even physical separation of a part of the left lane”, says the mayor of Sredets region Traicho Traikov.
According to him, no such measures have been taken so far, as there are legal and regulatory problems between the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the Capital Municipality regarding who can install a camera.
