Dimitar Glavchev: Bulgarian soldiers will not be sent to Ukraine - 1

The acting Prime Minister Dimitar Glavchev stated that while he is in office, they will not be sent Bulgarian soldiers to Ukraine. And NATO has no intention of sending troops there. Glavchev today answers topical questions from the media and citizens during a live broadcast on Facebook.

I implement the decisions of the National Assembly, I strictly adhere to them, I do not exceed them at all, I do not have such powers and my mandate is as voted by the National Assembly regarding Ukraine, said the acting prime minister, quoted by BTA. He emphasized that NATO is a defensive organization, not an aggressive alliance. At the NATO Summit in Washington, it was confirmed that Ukraine will be supported as long as necessary, as long as it wants to be supported against Ukraine's aggressive war against it, the Bulgarian Prime Minister said. He commented that we can talk about peace when it is lasting and sustainable, but based on international law and the UN charter. That is, the territorial integrity of Ukraine should be preserved, its sovereignty and borders should be preserved, commented Prime Minister Glavchev.

When asked why President Rumen Radev did not come to the NATO Summit in Washington and whether there was tension between the two, Dimitar Glavchev replied that there was no tension between him and the president. Yesterday, on the holiday of the diplomatic service, we met with the president, the vice president, the patriarch - we had quite normal conversations, explained the prime minister. He added that the question of why Radev did not want to lead the delegation at the NATO Summit is rather for him. I don't know, there are probably some reasons, commented the Prime Minister.

He recalled his proposal in the National Assembly to say who should lead the delegation, based on the fact that Glavchev is acting prime minister. That's why I asked the people's representatives to express an opinion on the matter - instead of uniting, it divided them, commented Dimitar Glavchev and clarified that that is why he suggested to the president that the two of them go to Washington together. And Radev should be the head of the delegation, since he is the supreme commander and a NATO general. But I don't know why he didn't accept it, it's his personal decision. If he has any considerations, he could express them, the acting prime minister also stated.

Regarding the topic of a Bulgarian European Commissioner in the new European Commission, Glavchev said that at the moment there are no talks about the distribution of portfolios, because it is too early. First, Ursula von der Leyen, elected president of the European Commission, will ask for proposals from the member states, then in the mode of talks between the states, opinions will be probed, explained the mechanism of the caretaker prime minister. Now the process of forming the commission is starting, the stage is early, there is no such conversation yet, he added.
