The decision of the Constitutional Court was inevitable, it it was wise. This is how the political scientist Rumiana Kolarova commented on today's decision of the Constitutional Court on the changes in the Basic Law to NOVA NEWS.
„I cannot understand, I personally cannot understand, why the Constitution was changed in this way. My only explanation, even though I'm getting sick of constantly berating the leaders of the “Continuing Change”, but my only explanation is that they simply don't understand how things are done or how things should be done in politics, in The Constitution etc. Just some kind of stark incompetence. And I would say that she is irresponsible, because once again I want to emphasize that there was an incredibly strong civic energy and a basic consensus in society and among politicians that these changes needed to be made. Things were ready, they were on a baking sheet. And … to fail. It's incredibly frustrating, of course. I'm saying this because I feel incredibly bitter about all this, because the judicial reform really had to start, Kolarova said.
Her colleague Petar Cholakov defined the debate between the constitutional judges as contested. He referred to the opinion of the constitutionalists who voted 6:6. “There were several special opinions from judge Belazelkov, Desislava Atanasova also had some considerations,” said Petar Cholakov. “Judicial reform was turpilated, but it was not completely turpilated”, he added.
According to Rumiana Kolarova, the decision of the Constitutional Court was inevitable in the part that refers to the judicial reform. “It was inevitable because of the convoluted way in which these changes were made. I am extremely saddened that this thing is happening in Bulgaria. Changes to the Constitution concerning the judicial system had to be adopted or at least key changes had to be made in the legislation, Kolarova added.
