The regional environmental and water inspection – Plovdiv (RIOSV – Plovdiv) informs the citizens that in the two air quality monitoring points in the city, no exceedances of the average day and night norms for the indicator “fine dust particles” (FPCH10) for August 2, 2024, announced the press center of the Ministry of Environment and Water.
The data is continuously monitored because of the fire that occurred in the Regional landfill for non-hazardous waste in the land of the village of Tsalapitsa and the transfer of air masses from there to Plovdiv.
To date, there is enough data to generate the daily average value for the “fine particulate matter“ (FPCH10) for the past 24 hours on August 2, 2024:
For automatic measuring station (AIS) “Kamenitsa“ the measured day-night average value according to the FPCH10 indicator is 39 µg/m3, and for AIS “Thrace“ – 45 µg/m3, which is below the standard for protecting human health of 50 µg/m3.
During the past 24 hours, the values presented to the public by the ecoinspection for dust concentrations in the atmospheric air were hourly averages, which did not allow them to be compared with the average day and night norm and, respectively, to make a final assessment.
BTA recalls that around 4:30 p.m. on August 1, a fire also broke out on the territory of the Regional landfill for non-hazardous waste near the village of Tsalapitsa, "Rodopi" municipality. The flames covered an area of about 15-16 acres. Agricultural equipment was called in to help plow around the dump to prevent the fire from spreading to dry grasses in the field. As a result of the fire, there was heavy smoke.
RIOSV – Plovdiv continues to monitor pollutants in the atmospheric air after the fire and in the following days and is ready to inform the citizens and other institutions in case of registering elevated values, the ministry assures.
