A pedestrian died after being hit by a car on the freeway (AM) “ Hemus“, in the section between the road junction “Belokopitovo“ and the border with the Targovishte region, announced the press center of the Regional Directorate (OD) of the Ministry of Internal Affairs in Shumen.
According to initial data, last night, around 21:30, a "Mercedes" car, with foreign registration, moving in the direction from Varna to Targovishte, driven by a 24-year-old man from Targovishte, hit a 76-year-old pedestrian from Shumen, which was on the left side of the roadway. The pedestrian died on the spot.
Employees of the fire department assisted in the inspection. A pre-trial proceeding has been initiated, the OD of the Ministry of Internal Affairs also informed.
One person died and 46 were injured in 30 serious traffic accidents in the country over the past 24 hours, the Ministry of the Interior announced on its website.
A driver died in an accident on the road between Veselinovo and the junction for Alexandrovo on August 6, as the traffic to Shumen and Burgas was diverted. A 61-year-old man from Kaspichan died on the spot after being hit by a car on a city street on August 3.
Until August 11, a specialized police operation to control speed regimes is underway throughout the country. The operation is part of the calendar of the European network of traffic police services – ROADPOL, as similar checks are carried out in all member countries of the European network.
