After prolonged treatment, the great Bulgarian journalist Ivan Garelov died this morning , reported from UMBALSM "N.I. Pirogov".
The 81-year-old journalist was rushed to the hospital after a serious accident by the sea while working on his new book.
Initially, Garelov was admitted to the Burgas District Hospital, but due to the deterioration of his condition, it was decided to transfer him to Sofia.
Ivan Garelov was born on February 6, 1943 in the village of Smilets, Pazardzhik region. Graduated from Sofia State University with a degree in journalism. Since 1972, he has been working at BNT as a reporter.
He became known as the host of the show “Panorama“ of BNT in the 80s and 90s of the last century. In it, he interviewed all the leading Bulgarian politicians and intellectuals during that period. At the head of “Panorama“ remained 21 years, at the beginning of the new millennium he moved to NOVA.
Garelov is also the author of a series of documentaries, the most famous of which is his film about Cambodia after the victory over the Khmer Rouge. The Bulgarian television crew was the first to enter the country devastated by Pol Pot's genocide.
Last year, after a short illness, the wife of the journalist Donka Stamboliyska died.
