From October 16, the movement of heavy-duty trucks over 12 tons through the “Petrokhan” pass is stopped. The temporary organization of traffic was introduced by order RD-11-661 of 21.06.2024, which is valid until October 15, inclusive.
The restriction of heavy goods traffic through the passage is in connection with the upcoming winter months and the expected deterioration of the meteorological situation. In the summer, the section was one of the possible bypass routes for vehicles over 12 tons in the direction of Sofia, after the closure of the section Mezdra - Lutidol - p. c. “Novice“ for the modernization of the I-1 Mezdra road – Botevgrad in the section from the 161st to the 194th km.
In November, the movement of heavy-duty vehicles over 3.5 tons will also be restricted on road III-103 Roman – Mezdra. This route is also used as an alternative for heavy traffic traveling to Vidin. The measure is imposed at the suggestion of the regional police departments in Mezdra and Roman due to road accidents involving heavy goods vehicles.
After this change, the bypass routes for vehicles over 3.5 tons in the modernization of the Mezdra road – Botevgrad are:
· road II-13 Krapchene - Krivodol - Borovan - Byala Slatina - Knezha - Dolni Dabnik - road I-3 Dolni Dabnik - Cherven bryag - Lukovit - Zlatna Panega - AM “Hemus“ and vice versa;
· road II-15 Vratsa - Borovan – road II-13 Borovan - Byala Slatina - Knezha - Dolni Dabnik - road I-3 Dolni Dabnik - Cherven bryag - Lukovit - Zlatna Panega - AM “Hemus“ and vice versa.
Agency “Road infrastructure“ apologizes to the drivers and citizens through whose settlements the transit traffic will pass, for the inconvenience caused. The diversion of traffic through detour routes inconveniences citizens and drivers alike, but its suspension is necessary to ensure both travel safety and a construction site for the dual carriageway upgrade of I-1 wider than the present.
In order to increase the safety of travelers and residents of the settlements through which the traffic will pass, the API works in constant coordination and close cooperation with the Main Directorate of the National Police. The appeal to the drivers and residents of the settlements in the region is to show understanding and patience, to drive carefully, at an appropriate speed, to strictly observe the traffic signals and not to undertake risky overtaking that could endanger the safety and lives of all travelers.
