The first task of the new civil organization “Democratic Center“ is to bring more transparency and trust to the electoral process, participants in the initiative announced at a press conference in the National Press Club of BTA.
This is a civil platform that will not deal only with elections, pointed out Stoil Tsitselkov, election expert and member of the Public Council of the Central Election Commission. He explained that it is an online platform where citizens can report and also get information on various topics such as education, healthcare, economy, social policy, justice, environment. The topics will follow the committees in the parliament, so that we can be more effective in proposing concrete solutions, especially when legislative changes have to be made, Tsitselkov explained. We have been discussing this project for a long time, but we thought it would be better now to start working on restoring trust in the electoral process, and especially among young people, he pointed out.
Blagovest Kirilov, former deputy and former deputy minister of e-government, announced that after the vote „Democratic Center” will make in-depth analyzes of the election results at the national, regional and local level and publish them, together with the signals and recommendations to the institutions. According to him, it is necessary to restore confidence in the electoral process in order to have a higher voter turnout.
Aleksander Stoyanov, former Deputy Minister of Regional Development and Public Works, commented that “in recent weeks we have been witnessing an exaggerated activity on the part of state institutions that want to show that they are fighting against the bought vote”. "In most cases, however, unfortunately, it's theater," he says. Stoyanov pointed out that they know about a number of risky sections in which the relevant actions are not taken. He drew attention to a list made public of well-known names in the criminal world who are involved in more than just vote-buying. According to him, this is a signal to the Ministry of the Interior and the Prosecutor's Office to pay attention to these persons.
Among the other initiatives of the “Democratic Center”, which were announced at the press conference, are the creation of a political academy for young people and a political compass - a database that will allow citizens to orientate themselves where the parties are on the political spectrum .
