Winter food will cost us more this year, according to a BNT check of the prices of seasonal vegetables. which are offered at the markets in Plovdiv.
The reason for the price increase is the drought this summer, which also leads to a lack of some vegetables.
On the market in the Plovdiv village of Graf Ignatievo, the demand for winter vegetables is still low.
"The weather is warm, but according to our observations, there will not be as great a demand as in previous years. People don't want to winterize. The big chains have everything. They buy ready-made pickles, ready-made cabbage", said Neda Bankova, producer.
"Peppers are out of season, but tomatoes, cauliflower, cabbage," added Pepa Tsokova, producer.
Because of the dry summer this year, vegetables are more expensive.
"Any production that is seen outdoors due to the drought is slightly higher priced. It will probably cost you a little more, but not by much. Compared to last year, there is an increase in the prices of pepper, pink tomatoes, and broccoli. The rest of the prices are at almost the same levels," commented Iliya Gatev, director of the vegetable exchange in Parvenets.
The increase in prices, however, does not stop Bulgarians from pickles and sauerkraut.
Because of the warm weather, most people will be preparing winter food in the next month.
