For nearly 8 years, a temporary roundabout has been making traffic difficult in Blagoevgrad. The intersection crosses one of the busiest boulevards in the city - “St. Dimitar Solunski” and “Vasil Levski”. It was launched in 2017 with the aim of easing traffic and had to be converted into a permanent one in a few months according to all European requirements. However, this did not happen, and the movable elements with which the organization of the movement is carried out at the moment are a prerequisite for accidents. See more in the report.

For 8 years now, one of the busiest intersections in Blagoevgrad has been functioning as a temporary roundabout. Or at least until it rains heavily and plastic barriers block traffic in the section

Kyril: "Just because of heavy rain, it happened to me on this roundabout that one of the plastic ones was in the middle of the roadway and you had to go around it."

Ivan Popnikolov: "It has been like this for a long time. These elements are also unstable in heavy rain, and may in other conditions create problems for traffic, pedestrians and everything."

Just a few days ago, a car hit the plastic barriers.

Dimitar Atanasov: "It's night time here, I live here, I listen to them passing by with dirty gas, hitting each other, disappearing, running away."

Kiril: "It is not right that it is still standing like this, given that the traffic lights are still standing, which are not working. To decide whether to fix one or fix the other."

The municipality of Blagoevgrad told BNT that a general plan for the organization of traffic is in the process of being prepared, which will also include this intersection. A reference on the website of the municipality shows that a company that will prepare the plan in question has yet to be selected.

In addition to patience, people stock up on rubber boots… and a sense of humor.

Dimitar Atanasov: "Why, what's wrong with him, now that he's being landscaped, he's extra!"

The municipality did not want to answer what the delay of 8 years was due to, nor to specify a deadline when the intersection would be ready.
