Two boys were buried by an avalanche and died in the Pirin Mountains. A week ago, an avalanche also took the life of a Swiss snowboarder. These tragedies remind us of how dangerous and unpredictable the mountains can be in winter. An expert revealed why they reach a fatal end and how we can protect ourselves from it. People wait all year, or more precisely, all summer and all autumn, for the snow to fall and then go on the mountains. But they are still mentally unsure of their judgments and these things happen in areas that are not that dangerous, expert Krasimir Stoyanov revealed to Nova News.
Those who have no experience should go with a very experienced person. This person must be a guide and have information about what happened in the mountains in the previous days, snowfall, low temperature, direction and strength of the wind, he added.
In the latest tragedy, the wind also blows in the leeward side and deposits huge amounts of snow. The base is a loaded snow surface and there is no adhesion between the two layers, as a result of which the first ski or snowboard cut is on this field, and from there on things are clear, and it is not a question of there being a lot of snow, the chairman of the Bulgarian Avalanche Association also said in "Social Network".
