Minister of the Interior Atanas Ilkov announced that there are no signals of violence against people committed by employees of the “Border Police“. “I categorically state that there is no violence against migrants. These are base, unnecessary and baseless speculations“, he specified and added: “The colleagues are sufficiently prepared and have professional experience to perform their functions according to the law“, quoted by Nova TV.
We recall that on Sunday in the column “Stories of Maria Yotova“ on the air of “In Focus with Lora Krumova“ on NOVA, the stories of migrants in distress were told. The team of the organization that has been helping them for years - the “Mission Wings“ Foundation, reported shocking cases of violence by the Bulgarian authorities.
“We had signals at the end of the year about deceased migrants in the Sredets region. Our colleagues responded immediately to each of these signals, all procedural actions were carried out. Forensic medical examinations categorically show that there is no evidence of violence. Those we find near Sredets died as a result of overwork, frostbite and many energy drinks that they consumed during their transition“, explained the Minister of the Interior.
He emphasized that Strandzha Mountain has extremely difficult terrain and requires a lot of effort to cross. “Maybe this is the place where migrants are at the limit of their strength and this unwanted effect occurs“, he added.
“We have three established cases in which people have died. We cannot say for sure whether they are minors or adults because they do not have documents. Their identities are still being established”, Ilkov also reported.
