Angel Naydenov: Our aid to Ukraine is not free. We have received hundreds of millions of euros - 1

Former Minister of Defense Angel Naydenov revealed details about the financial dimensions of Bulgarian military aid to Ukraine in the program “Offensive with Lyubomir Ognyanov" on NOVA News.

"The aid that Bulgaria provides to Kiev is not free. It is paid for by European funds or by European countries that provide financial resources instead of military aid," said Naydenov.

According to him, the compensation is calculated according to a certain formula with specific coefficients, and so far our country has received significant funds, commensurate with the value of some of the major modernization projects in defense.

Naydenov commented on the recent events surrounding the suspension of American aid to Ukraine, emphasizing that an exception was made only for Israel and Egypt. He recalled the six-month debates in the US Congress regarding the $60 billion package and the negative impact on the front line.

"There is no doubt that this year is associated with the hope, if not lasting peace - then at least to achieve a temporary truce," the former defense minister shared. He expressed expectation for negotiations to be held in 2025, but remained skeptical about achieving lasting peace.

Naydenov revealed details of the deal to refresh the ammunition of the Bulgarian Army, approved by a decision of the Council of Ministers. "If Bulgaria had spent funds to destroy the old ammunition and purchase new ones, it would have cost as much as we have received so far from this exchange of old for new ones," he explained.
