Georgi Georgiev: Nothing has been forgotten and will be told as long as we live - 1

The political murders and executions of Bulgarian statesmen, scientists and industrialists are ineptly masked behind the so-called "People's Court". The court dispenses justice. And the "People's Court" has done just the opposite - its participants have tried to justify a huge injustice and a shameful stain in our history. Not a court, but a bloodbath - a court, into which the blood of the elite of our nation has flowed.

This is what the Minister of Justice Georgi Georgiev wrote on his Facebook profile, quoted by FOCUS, on the occasion of the Day of the Victims of the Communist Regime.

Here is what else the minister wrote:

Today marks eighty years since the greatest and cruelest violation of the Bulgarian constitution and our legislation.

The political murders and executions of Bulgarian statesmen, scientists and industrialists are clumsily masked behind the so-called "People's Court". The court dispenses justice. And the "People's Court" has done just the opposite - its participants have tried to justify a huge injustice and a shameful stain in our history. Not a court, but a bloody font - a court in which the blood of the elite of our nation has flowed.

In 1996, the Supreme Court overturned the verdicts of the First and Second Judicial Chambers of the "People's Court" as illegal, motivating themselves with a number of procedural violations. My team and I will work to make more Bulgarian citizens learn about these courageous decisions of the supreme judges.

Today we commemorate the memory of all victims of the criminal communist regime. A tribute to their memory!

Sometimes life surprises us with cruel irony - nearly 70 years ago, my grandfather's brother, a member of the Goryan movement, 17 years old, was convicted and served three years in Belene. Today, the Ministry of Justice is responsible for the prison in Belene and in the morning I receive reports about what is happening there. The only prison, the mention of which makes me shudder every time. Nothing has been forgotten. And what happened will be told as long as we exist.

So that we exist.
