"The National Assembly must categorically reject and not even consider President Rumen Radev's proposal for the euro referendum, because it is unconstitutional," said GERB leader Boyko Borisov.
He called on PP-DB, "DPS-New Beginning" and APS to be united and reject it.
„The process is complete and in just a month we will have a positive convergence report. If this referendum is allowed, you can forget about the eurozone not only in 2026, but also in 2036. This is a chance for Bulgaria. The outstretched hands for unity will be stronger than the fist of Rumen Radev. Let us be strong and united now. It doesn't matter that the cabinet is called “Zhelyazkov“, the cabinet is called Bulgaria now“, Boyko Borisov urged.
"President Rumen Radev's game is with the date. On the one hand, he aims to be for the eurozone, and on the other - to play with people's fears. And thirdly, to break the ruling majority," Borisov also said.
He addressed the democratic community and the parties that support Bulgaria's European path.
“We want to be in the heart of Europe, not on the periphery, to be where decisions are made“, Boyko Borisov emphasized.
Brussels is watching the process of joining the euro extremely carefully, because Bulgaria is the one that wants to become a member.
“What is being done is dangerous. They are extremely worried in Brussels. The parliament should reject the proposals for the euro as quickly as possible. A referendum should have been requested before the convergence report. Now Radev's people have heard that the convergence report will be positive and a European Commissioner will come on June 4 to read it. He should have asked for it 4 years ago“, Borisov said.
"Bulgaria will be different when it enters the eurozone", concluded the GERB leader.
