Rumen Radev launched an unconstitutional and illegal referendum. This was stated in the studio of “Wake up” by the head of state of Bulgaria (2012-2017) Rosen Plevneliev, commenting on the decision of President Rumen Radev to submit a proposal to parliament for a referendum on the euro.
"As a head of state who has held the first three referendums in the history of Bulgaria's democratic development, I am clearly aware that the referendum is, as people say - the nuclear weapon of democracy. It must be prepared well, done in the interest of the people and, above all, in sync with the institutions. It is good to think and ask ourselves the question - why right now? And here I give myself the following answer. The head of state has been silent for years on very important topics - and precisely on May 9, on Europe Day, he launched, surprisingly for everyone, including me, an unconstitutional anti-European referendum", emphasized Plevneliev.
In his words, this move by Radev is strategically very dangerous, anti-systemic and with serious consequences for Bulgaria. "This is a golden chance for him to position himself as the leader of the Eurosceptics in the country. This is the last chance and the last hope of the anti-Europeans, the Eurosceptics and their master Putin to stop Bulgaria from entering the eurozone.
And he expressed the opinion that the convergence report that we expect from the EC on the eurozone will be positive. Plevneliev emphasized that "the Kremlin is in a panic that Bulgaria will make a new phase of integration into Europe".
