DSB re-elected Bonka Vasileva as city chair - 1

Today, the reporting and election meetings of the three Sofia MIRs and the election of a city chair were held at the headquarters of Democrats for a Strong Bulgaria. With a convincing majority, Ms. Bonka Vasileva was re-elected for a second term - municipal councilor in the Sofia Municipal Council. She thanked for the trust and stated that she will continue to work on the party's priorities for Sofia, set out in the DSB program.

The meeting was opened by the party's chairman Atanas Atanasov, who stated:

“We have two important challenges before us today:
The first is national - Bulgaria's admission to the eurozone. According to the treaties we have signed, the state is obliged to adopt the single European currency. And here is the president, whom some call "Mr. Botas" - probably with the idea of creating his own political project - came up with a proposal for a referendum against the euro. This is an attempt to destabilize the state and to make people hesitate about the right direction for our country.

In this regard, DSB will submit a declaration to the National Assembly on Monday, insisting that such a proposal not be allowed to be voted on.

We know that various anti-European forces, motivated by the Kremlin, will try to trip us up right at the final right. But we from DSB and the PP-DB coalition will fight to the end for the final acceptance of Bulgaria into the core of the European Union.

The second, no less important challenge, is the upcoming regular presidential elections. Our task - as a party and as a coalition - is to do everything possible to consolidate the entire democratic community and elect a president who looks to the West.

We have already held talks with our partners and by the end of the month we will organize a round table with all important figures from the community. We will discuss the DSB proposal to hold early elections, in which a candidate close to the people and their problems, but also a clear expression of our ideas and the direction of the country - towards Europe and NATO - would be elected.“

The event was also honored by the mayor of Sofia, Vasil Terziev, who stated:

“You from Democrats for a Strong Bulgaria have been on the ground for so long and I am sure that you have more than once reached the point of giving up. The fact that you have withstood all the battles gives strength to us - the younger ones in politics - as well not to give up, to continue to uphold democratic principles, to introduce European practices and to fight for our community.“

The Deputy Mayor of Sofia, Ms. Nadezhda Bobcheva, the candidate for mayor of Slatina district, Mr. Georgi Iliev, as well as the municipal councilor from “Yes, Bulgaria“ – Boyko Dimitrov also joined in with greetings. “By the way, here it is, edited, if you decide to put it: “We united in 2018 and created Democratic Bulgaria – this gave us the opportunity to work together for change at both the national and local levels. With our later unification with the PP, we managed to win Sofia and Varna, although not categorically. But it is important to continue to develop and strengthen this unification in order to meet the challenges that lie ahead – especially on the Russia - European Union axis. That is why it is extremely important that we are together.“
