The Union of Medical Specialists in Bulgaria announced readiness for effective protest actions.

The reason is that they want an increase in salaries in state and municipal hospitals.

According to Maya Ilieva, who is the chairwoman of the Union of Bulgarian Medical Specialists, the basic salary of a nurse varies between 1200 and 1800 leva.

„Our demands are for the starting salary for the professions to become 150% of the average salary for the country. That is 3077 leva“, she specified.

The chairman pointed out that the reason is the constant neglect of the profession.

“Our eruption and our activity – to reach extreme actions – was the protest of the transport workers in Sofia. Because we saw that after you cause inconvenience and hold fast to your demands, then solutions are found. Over the years, we have always been given such promises, but unfortunately from the last protests until now – the salary does not correspond to the qualifications and the work we do“, said Maya Ilieva.

She stated that they expect the authorities to invite them to a public debate in a health commission, where decisions would be made. However, so far there has been no reaction from the authorities.

“We warned of extreme actions. Together with the Bulgarian Association of Healthcare Professionals, we are starting the organization. When we are ready, we will announce the date on which we will not report to work. We are talking about thousands of people, because they are all members of our professional organization“, added Maya Ilieva, quoted by bTV.
