Five days before the report on Bulgaria's readiness for the euro, a wave of protests has taken place in cities across the country. Their goal is to protect the Bulgarian lev. The demonstrations have been organized by several parliamentary and extra-parliamentary parties. Among them – “Vazrazhdane”, “Velichye” and VMRO, Nova TV reports.
In Sofia, the protest is in the so-called Triangle of Power – just meters from the BNB building. According to the organizers, the Bulgarian lev is not only a monetary currency. It is a symbol of our sovereignty, independence and the right of Bulgaria to decide its own future. That is why the protest is under the slogan "Let's preserve the Bulgarian lev".
On February 25, an identical protest reached a point of tension. Supporters of the "Vazrazhdane" party set fire to the door of the European Commission building in our country, broke windows and sprayed the facade with red paint. The damage was estimated at 180,000 euros. There were also detainees.
The State Security Service of the Republic of Bulgaria calls on citizens to respect public order and the instructions of police officers. In order for the protest to pass peacefully.
Identical demonstrations in different forms are taking place in over 100 places in the country.
