Rumen Petkov: Since 2018, institutions have completely failed in informing the public about the euro - 1

Since 2018, institutions have completely failed in their efforts to inform the public about the adoption of the euro. This was stated to the media in Varna by the chairman of the ABV PP Rumen Petkov, emphasizing that it is precisely this institutional failure that is at the root of the growing skepticism among Bulgarian citizens.

According to him, instead of building a stable, expert and consistent information campaign, the ruling party has made key mistakes – from the selection of speakers to the ignoring of expert opinions and opinions of social partners.

Inappropriate speakers were chosen who do not inspire trust. Leading economic experts, as well as employers' and trade union organizations, were ignored“, said Petkov. He emphasized that it is precisely these organizations that have important arguments on the topic.

„Employers, for example, point out that since the European Union and the eurozone are our main trading partners, companies pay significant amounts for currency conversion between the lev and the euro - costs that make their production more expensive. This is a real problem that all governments have simply ignored so far“, the leader of ABV also pointed out.

According to him, the institutions have not only underestimated the need for an explanatory campaign, but have missed the opportunity to build trust through an open dialogue with society. “This approach has failed. It has been failed by a series of governments that have not taken responsibility and have not listened to the arguments of real business and people“, concluded Rumen Petkov.
