There is a shortage of lifeguards again on the Southern Black Sea Coast. Experts warn about this at the beginning of the summer season, bTV reported.

The lack of people willing to become lifeguards is becoming more and more noticeable, as the age limit for people guarding the beaches is getting higher.

Some beaches on the Southern Black Sea Coast are already guarded by foreigners.

„The entrance exam for a swimming pool, for example, is 50 m, while at the sea it is twice as long - 100 m. However, to become a lifeguard, a person must have practiced swimming for at least 1-2 years to meet these standards. The second is that they lack motivation, because it is a seasonal job and not everyone can take on such responsibility as working as a lifeguard. The age of the lifeguards is currently from 40 to 70 years, young people do not come to us, there are no candidates“, commented Petar Rusev, senior lifeguard at Severni Beach in Burgas.

The Regulation on water rescue activities, which was adopted last year, but its effect was postponed, is now in force.
