Gutsanov explains in the National Assembly what measures have been taken against illegal homes for the elderly - 1

The Parliamentary Committee on Demographic Policy, Children and the Family will hear Social Minister Borislav Gutsanov in connection with the measures taken by the state to prevent unlicensed homes for social services. This is reported by BNT.

The mass inspections and measures came after the scandalous cases in Yagoda, Govedartsi and Varna, where elderly people were found in a helpless state, cared for in buildings without any conditions, in misery and hunger. Of the 230 elderly people taken out of the closed homes, only 38 were taken by their families, Minister Gutsanov previously specified to BNT. According to him, nearly 500 inspections have been carried out in 5 months, and 900 for the entire past year. The inspections are still ongoing.

Renovations are also being made to 81 homes for the elderly. A meeting is also scheduled with the national association of municipalities to see which municipal facilities - such as former schools, hospitals, and community centers that have fallen into disuse - can be reconstructed into homes for the elderly.
