On one of the hottest days this summer, when thermometers in Southern Bulgaria showed nearly 38 degrees, an unexpected summer rain brought coolness. The drop was as much as 10 degrees in part of the Rhodope Mountains. In an hour in Chepelare and Pamporovo, heavy rainfall turned streets into rivers, Nova TV reported.

In the mountain resorts of Chepelare and Pamporovo, temperatures dropped sharply - from 28 to just 18 degrees. The streets there quickly flooded, and the rain was greeted with relief by locals and tourists. Just minutes before the storm in Chepelare, it was 33 degrees.

Meteorologists warn that thunderstorms in the mountains are dangerous and require strict safety measures. At the first sign of lightning, people should seek shelter indoors, avoid high points and metal objects, and move away from bodies of water.

• Here are some tips:

1. Seek shelter: At the first sign of lightning, seek shelter indoors. Avoid open spaces, high points, trees, and power lines.

2. Avoid high points and trees: Don't stand near mountaintops or trees that can be struck by lightning.

3. Move away from water: Avoid standing near water surfaces such as lakes, streams, or rivers that can conduct electricity.

4. Secure equipment: Stay away from metal objects, including backpacks, clothing with metal elements, or equipment.

5. Weather Forecasting and Planning: Always check the weather forecast before heading out on a mountain adventure. Avoid starting a climb if there are thunderstorm warnings.

6. Share Route and Action Plan: If hiking in a group, make sure everyone is aware of the shelter location and what to do in case of a thunderstorm.

7. Wait in a Safe Place: If you are stranded on the road, find a safe place to wait until the storm passes.
