The 37-year-old woman from Blagoevgrad, who was attacked and stabbed with a knife by her ex-boyfriend in broad daylight on Friday, remains in intensive care. Doctors report that she is now conscious and able to communicate, but the danger to her life has not yet completely passed.
The victim was admitted in extremely serious condition to the Blagoevgrad General Hospital, with stab wounds to the neck and chest. Thanks to the team's quick and professional response, the woman was operated on urgently and saved.
„Since yesterday, the patient has been extubated and is no longer on artificial lung ventilation. "She is in good condition and is breathing adequately, but it is still too early to say that she is out of danger," explained Dr. Sasho Karadjov from the intensive care unit. According to him, one of the wounds was literally millimeters from the carotid artery - a vital blood vessel.
The woman underwent two surgeries. Doctors describe her recovery as "true luck", as the stab wounds to the lung led to severe collapse, and the neck wound could have been fatal.
The perpetrator of the attack, her ex-boyfriend, has been charged with premeditated attempted murder, carried out in a particularly cruel manner. The law provides for a penalty of between 15 and 20 years in prison. On Saturday, the court ruled that he should remain in custody permanently.
The victim is the mother of two young children. The investigation into the case is ongoing, and the prosecution is expected to file an indictment in the coming weeks.
