Employees of the General Directorate of the “National Police“ have uncovered two illegal car morgues, in which numerous parts of stolen cars wanted in European Union countries were found. The investigation has been going on for about two months and covers the territory of Sofia and the Vidin region, Nova TV reports.
According to the head of the “Criminal Police“ department, Vladislav Mishev, this is a criminal activity developed over a longer period of time. During the operational actions, two sites were identified, independent of each other, in which there was a large amount of disassembled cars and auto parts.
The cars were manufactured in the period from 2021 to 2025, and their parts were successfully sold on the illegal market by individuals from the criminal contingent. According to initial data, the affected vehicles are about 200.
Engines, gearboxes, hybrid batteries and body parts were seized. In one car morgue alone, 276 auto parts were found within two weeks, and in the other - 28 engines.
The car morgue in Elin Pelin had a special room with professional tools for disassembling cars, as well as an underground place where the most expensive parts were hidden - hybrid batteries.
There is one person in custody in the case, who has been charged. The initial arrest was for 72 hours, after which the suspect was placed under house arrest. The person is known to law enforcement.
There are currently no detainees from the second site. The case is ongoing.
