The district prosecutor's office in Plovdiv arrested and brought charges against the mayor of the village of Voynyagovo in Karlovy Vary, reported BNT.
Todor Tankovski stole and sold the fireplace to the retirement club, and lost the money to a mosquito. Tankovski was convicted twice for crimes of a general nature, he also served a "probation" sentence.
Todor Tankovski is mayor for the third consecutive term. It is no secret in Voynyagovo that he is a gambling addict.
"I know he plays... I have asked him many times. I also lent him money, he returned it to me. He promised that he had improved before the elections.
However, no one expected that he would even sell the fireplace from the retirement club that he stole on Monday.
The mayor asked for the key to the pensioners' club in order to go there to dance.
Instead of dancing, however, Tankovski dismantled the fireplace.
"The fireplace has no value. It has been standing there for so many years, it is rusting. She is wearing a wetsuit. There is no equipment with her. How much BGN did he sell it for, it was 80 BGN... he even took a lot of money", commented Dobri Dobrev, a resident of Voynyagovo.
There are reports against the mayor of Voynyagovo that, due to his gambling addiction, he took building materials and agricultural consumables on a whim, which he then sold. However, the traders started looking for their money from the municipality of Karlovo.
"Shopping indiscriminately at all hardware stores in the territory of the municipality of Karlovo and also in the city of Sopot. We collected all the invoices, formed the report and sent it to the prosecutor's office. The mayor appointed a committee that did an on-site inspection in the town hall and found a great lack of the things that were purchased from the construction stores," explained Danka Lyurtova – Deputy Mayor of Karlovo Municipality.
It is not excluded that Tankovski will part with his post, since the stolen fireplace is another offense of his. 6 years ago, he was arrested in a parking lot in Karlovo for demanding a bribe of 150 BGN.
