Two of the defendants in the siphoning scandal of state funds, which started from the Razgrad Philharmonic Orchestra, are appealing their detention measures to the court in Plovdiv, BNT reported.
It became clear a week ago about the scheme through which funds were drained from theaters in the country.
Computer specialist Petko Piskov from Pazardzhik is accused of complicity in the embezzlement of nearly 1 million BGN from the theater in Razgrad. He is named as one of director Levon Manukyan's assistants in the scheme. The other one who wants a lighter measure is the stuntman Atanas Georgiev from Pernik. He is believed to have taken care of recruiting new workers. Some of those hired were from Pernik and had never visited Razgrad. Georgiev personally collected the sums by hand or withdrew them from bank cards.
Under the scheme, more than 40 people were appointed to the Razgrad theater with significantly increased remuneration. Both Piskov and Georgiv are under a permanent restraining order.
Manukyan was released on BGN 50,000 bail, for which there is still no information as to whether it has been posted. Earlier, Manukyan requested a smaller bail, but his request was not granted.
