The Court of Appeal confirmed the measure of remand of Ceyhan Ibryamov, accused of influence peddling, and left him permanently in custody. The ruling is final, BTA reports.
According to the court, the considerations of the first instance regarding the existence of a justified assumption of the commission of a crime are correct. "At the moment, no evidence has been presented that would undermine the existence of this well-founded assumption," said the judge rapporteur on the case, Vera Tsvetkova. The court panel also accepts that there is no danger that the accused will abscond, but there is a real danger that he will commit a crime if it is with a lesser measure or none.
Last week, the Sofia City Court placed Ibryamov in permanent custody at the request of the prosecutor's office. The defense of the accused appeals the imposed measure “detention in custody” before the higher court. The case then took place behind closed doors, at the request of the prosecution.
