Tension in the Botevgrad village of Skravena after a brutal beating of a local resident. The suspect in the attack personally filmed the act with his phone, and the video blew up social networks. He was detained, but is currently at large. This caused a wave of discontent in the settlement, whose residents announced that they would go out to protest next Saturday - May 17.
The attack took place on the night between April 24 and 25 in the center of Skravena. Ina Georgieva, who is the daughter of the victim, stood in front of the Nova TV camera. According to her, her father is currently in stable condition. "However, he has broken ribs, swelling in the back of his head, swelling in his eye, hemorrhage and severe dizziness and nausea", she explained.
The young woman found out about the video of the attack from customers at the grocery store where she works. She is adamant that the suspect attacked her father without being provoked. Georgieva stressed that her family has repeatedly helped and knows this about the attacker. "They have repeatedly asked us for work. We have helped. That is what hurt us the most", Georgieva said.
Her mother filed a police complaint about the attack three days later. The suspect was detained for 24 hours and released. Iva Georgieva emphasized that she was told that he was a minor and could not remain in custody for any longer.
According to unofficial information, the detainee is between 18-19 years old and of Roma origin. He was released because he turned out to be deaf and mute and has mental disorders. He was taken to a psychiatric hospital for examination. Expert reports are currently awaited.
Iva Georgieva emphasized that there is no tension between Roma and Bulgarians in the village. "I can say that a large part of the Roma in the settlement support us. We are organizing a protest next Saturday against the Roma clan, known as the Bebovi, who live illegally on the territory of the village in illegal buildings," she emphasized.
According to Dimitar Romanov, who is close to Georgieva's family, representatives of the Bebovi clan have not committed attacks for the first time and are known for domestic thefts in the area. "I am worried because I have children who move around the village independently. But these people feel an extraordinary sense of impunity. And this is despite the actions of the police, who react immediately to the signal, take the appropriate measures, but their powers are also limited", Romanov emphasized.
