The four young men accused of beating the director of the police in Ruse remain permanently in custody, the District Court decided. The case, described by psychologist Rosen Yordanov as “unprecedented“, raises questions about aggression in society and the lack of respect for institutions. According to the expert, who was a guest on the show “Wake Up”, assaulting a police officer is a taboo that cannot be justified by provocation.

“This is an unprecedented case“, Yordanov stated categorically. “I worked in the most bandit years of the transition. I remember serious and I know serious male bandits. I don't remember anyone ever thinking of attacking a director of a regional directorate of the Ministry of Interior.

According to him, the problem is rooted in the lack of value architecture and respect for authority. “These kids simply don't understand that attacking a police officer is taboo“, he said. Yordanov rejected the version of one of the detainees, Kiril Gochev, who claims that they were provoked by the policeman's neighbor, who blocked their path and slapped the driver.

“As soon as you say “I am a policeman“, everything has to stop“, the psychologist added.

The presenter also raised the issue of the role of the Ministry of Interior itself in building its image, giving examples of police violence during protests and officers involved in schemes with migrants. Rosen Yordanov agreed that the ministry is to blame for the collapse in its authority.

„The Ministry of Interior does not care about its own authority. For years, the Ministry of Interior has been promoting personnel who do not give self-confidence to the system. Obedient people stand out and grow, not people who have self-confidence, proven professionalism. And all this has created the lack of self-respect that the system needs“, he analyzed.

According to him, the problem of lack of respect is systemic and also affects other institutions such as the prosecutor's office and the court, with its roots in the family and school. He concluded with an appeal to the entire society: „The appeal is to parents, to society and to people to understand that before looking into the other person's pocket, to look at themselves. We cannot constantly seek apologetic explanations for every situation we find ourselves in, and for the state to be the permanent culprit. Because the state – this is us“.
