Bulgarian boxer Rami Kiwan won a silver medal at the World Championship - 1

Rami Kiwan lost the final in the up to 75 kg category at the World Boxing Championship in Liverpool, losing 0:5 on judges' votes to Uzbekistan's Fazlidin Erkinboev, BTA reported.

This was the first participation of a Bulgarian boxer in a world title final in 16 years, when Detelin Dalakliev won the gold medal in Milan.

The opponent from Uzbekistan is a three-time Asian champion and world junior champion. The 20-year-old Erkinboev dominated all three rounds today against the Bulgarian, with his superiority being particularly evident in the second. Kiwan made a good third round and tried to turn the tide of the match, but after the first two parts his chances were not very great.

The 25-year-old Kiwan, who is the European Champion since 2024 in Belgrade, was decisive over the Englishman Callum Meekin in the semi-final yesterday. Before that, he eliminated Alan Perry from Scotland and Sumit Kundu from India.

This was the 20th final with Bulgarian participation at the World Boxing Championships, and Kiwan's silver medal is the 11th. With this performance, Bulgaria concluded the extremely successful tournament in Liverpool for our country. It was also garnished by the bronze medal of 21-year-old Radoslav Rosenov in the up to 60 kilogram category. Debutants William Cholov (80 kg) and Semyon Boldyrev (85 kg) remained at the foot of the awards, ranking fifth.
