Manchester City, the multiple champions of England in recent years, beat the leader in the standings Arsenal 2:1 in an exceptional match, worthy of a season finale in the Premier League. Ryan Sherkey in the first half and Erling Haaland in the second half were the scorers for the "citizens", Kai Havertz punished a mistake by goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma for the guests from London. So City is now only three points behind the "gunners," but has a game less and will probably equalize the opponent after a possible success against Burnley. Arsenal currently have a +37 goal difference, while Manchester City have a +36, but that could change and could prove decisive.
City will play Burnley, Everton, Brentford, Bournemouth and Aston Villa before the end of the season, while Arsenal have games against Newcastle, Fulham, West Ham, Burnley and Crystal Palace.
Manchester City put pressure on their opponents early in the game, creating several chances, but Arsenal responded with dangerous attacks. Midway through the half, Frenchman Ryan Cherki made an elegant break into the penalty area, shooting under Saliba's foot into the bottom right corner of Arsenal's goal for 1-0. Immediately afterwards, Donnarumma was slow to clear the ball from the outfield, with Havertz blocking it and it rebounded into the net - 1:1.
At the beginning of the second half, Erling Haaland's shot hit the right post. Arsenal had a strong minute, with Havertz and Odegaard making misses, and Eberechi Eze's shot also hit the left post of Donnarumma's goal.
In the 65th minute, Haaland made it 2:1 with a shot on the right lower kick from the penalty area. In the 73rd minute, Gabriel's shot from the visitors hit the post with a header. In added time, Havertz made a big miss for the Londoners, who would not have deserved to win a point and maintain their lead.
