Olympic champion Alexander Zverev (Germany) continues defense of title at single in the tennis tournament at the Paris Games, BTA reported.

Zverev qualified for the quarterfinals after defeating the representative of Australia Alexey Popirin with 7:5, 6:3 and expects a meeting with the 11th ranked Italian Lorenzo Musetti.

The duel with Popyrin lasted an hour and 30 minutes. The German tennis player overcame a deficit of 1:3 and 4:5 in the first set to reach a successful 7:5.

In the second part, Alexander Zverev took a 3:0 lead and ended the match at 6:3.

The 13th-seeded Felix Auger-Aliassim from Canada eliminated the fourth-seeded Russian Daniil Medvedev 6:3, 7:6(5) in an hour and 42 minutes of play.

The Canadian made a key break for a 5:3 lead in the first set and won it 6:3, and in the second set it was decided after a tiebreak in which he prevailed with 7-5 points.

The Canadian's next opponent will be sixth-seeded Kasper Ruud from Norway, who prevailed over Argentine Francisco Cerundolo 6:3 6:4.

One break each in both sets was enough for Ruud to overcome Cherundolo's resistance.
