The NBA All-Star Game could see a drastically changed format as innovations are being considered for the February 2025 weekend in San Francisco. ESPN reported that a four-team format is being proposed for the mini-tournament, which will take place over three days.
Instead of the traditional East vs. West format, the All-Stars will be divided into three teams. Those teams will wait for the winner of the Rising Stars to complete the four-team field, with a semifinal and final round.
ESPN states that the NBA has been considering this plan for nearly six months.
The competitive nature of the meeting has been in question for some time, with rule changes necessary in recent years.
Last year's All-Star Game in Indianapolis was especially worrisome after the Eastern Conference won 211-186 over the Western Conference. It was the first time in history that the winning team scored 200 points, while the total of 397 was a meet record.
