Mission Isak – too expensive for the Catalans?

Barcelona has serious intentions to attract not only Newcastle's top scorer Alexander Isak, but also midfielder Sandro Tonali, reports “Mundo Deportivo”.

Isak is having a remarkable season at “St. James' Park“ and logically attracts the attention of leading European clubs, including Barcelona. The Swedish striker has 19 goals and 5 assists in 25 Premier League games, making him one of the most effective strikers in Europe.

Despite their interest, the Catalans may find themselves unable to finance such a transfer this summer. Newcastle have set a valuation of nearly 150 million pounds for Isak – an amount that Barcelona could hardly afford in the current financial situation.

However, this does not mean that Barcelona is giving up on business with the “Magpies“. Mundo Deportivo claims that the Spanish club's management has had a long-standing interest in Sandro Tonali – since the time the Italian was at Brescia.

In 2020, the Catalans made an offer worth 65 million euros, which was rejected, but they have never given up on the idea of attracting him. Tonali impresses with his excellent combination of defensive stability and creativity, which makes him ideal for Barça's style.

The club's scouts continue to monitor his performances, but a possible transfer remains difficult to realize. Newcastle paid £58m to sign him and his contract runs until 2028.

The Magpies are not likely to part with the 24-year-old midfielder, who is a key part of Eddie Howe's midfield, easily. Tonali himself has also repeatedly stated that he is happy at the club. While a deal for Tonali seems unlikely, Sean Longstaff could be the player to leave Newcastle this summer.

The Englishman is no longer Howe's favourite and has just 12 months left on his contract. According to reports, Manchester United are reviving their interest in Longstaff, who has long been on the Red Devils' radar. This could be one of the deals Newcastle would be more interested in
