England coach Thomas Tuchel said that his team was also lucky in the victory against Latvia in the world qualifiers, FOKUS reported.
This was the German's second official match in charge. England won 3-0, but could have played the last half hour with a man less after Jude Bellingham came in rough on Raivis Jurkovskis. The Real Madrid midfielder already had one yellow card, but referee Orel Greenfield did not give him a second.
Bellingham avoided being sent off while England was still leading by only one goal.
"We were a bit lucky. We had a situation in which Jude Bellingham could have been sent off. After that, everything could have turned upside down, so I substituted him after that. I think his first yellow card was a bit excessive. But the second one was possible, so we took him off immediately," Tuchel said.
He said he was happy with the two wins in his first two games in charge.
"We still have room to improve. But two wins, two clean sheets, we didn't concede big chances, so there are a lot of positives. It wasn't an easy game, but I'm happy with the desire and the energy," the coach added.
